THE LA LA LAND EFFECT
Last year, cinema audiences were enchanted by the story of a fledgling romance between jazz pianist Sebastian, and aspiring actress Mia, in the Oscarwinning musical La La Land. As billboards were plastered with images of actors Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone dancing in front of the Hollywood skyline, it’s hardly surprising that, following the film’s UK release in January 2017, stores were teeming with shoppers looking for floaty yellow tea dresses similar to Stone’s. High street giants reported a huge spike in online searches for the canary shade, and a 44 per cent increase in the sale of yellow frocks. Along with Millennial Pink, La La Land Yellow has been dubbed one of the most influential colours of 2017.
