‘Phantom Limb, Art Beyond Escher’ and ‘ Escher’s Journey’ (friesmuseum.nl) These two shows invite visitors into a world where nothing is quite as it seems. ‘Escher’s Journey’ will see the return of a number of the artist’s works to the city of his birth. ‘Phantom Limb’ explores the extent of Escher’s in uence through large- scale installation pieces inspired by this master of visual trickery. ‘Mata Hari: The Woman and the Myth’ (friesmuseum.nl) The story of Margaretha Zelle’s rise to international fame on the Parisian stage and her later fall from grace, which saw her executed as a German spy in 1917, is told through her personal effects. Keramiekmuseum Princessehof (princessehof.nl) Following extensive refurbishment, the museum has reopened its doors, and as the national museum of ceramics, it is home to one of the best collections of Asian porcelain in Europe.
