22nd October 1906 marked the death of French artist Paul Cézanne. With a hammer price of $274m, The Card Players is one of the world’s most expensive paintings.

On 10th October 1903, Emmeline Pankhurst formed the Women’s Social and Political Union from her family home. From 1906, they were termed Suffragettes.
