My favourite culin y antique

‘Mine is a 19th-century pestle and mortar. I’m of the view that culinary antiques are a bit pointless if they aren’t used, so this is my regular pestle and mortar and lives in my kitchen. I bought it in a small antiques shop in Stowmarket. I’d used a similar one while working in costume as a Victorian maid and knew how much better they were than modern ones. It is heavy, deep and brutally effective. Everything a cook wants!’ Dr Annie Gray is a food historian.
