Discovering Dresser

- Sue Sedgwick

I was very interested to read the column on British art po!ery by John Mackie in H&A’s Auction Special 2020, which informed me how much the rare sake bo!le designed by Christopher Dresser sold for at auction: £21,250. Wow. I work at the Dorman Museum in Middlesbrough where we are proud to say that we house the largest public collection in the world of objects designed by Dresser, alongside those of Linthorpe Po!ery. Our mission is to raise the pro"le of the designer and hopefully achieve muchdeserved recognition for his pioneering designs. It was fantastic to see his piece in your magazine. Hopefully it will inspire your readers to come along to view the breadth of his work on display in our museum.
