Maison sarah Lavoine
Interior designer Sarah Lavoine’s store in the 2nd arrondissement brings together the best of Parisian design. Sarah tells us more
How would you describe your style? Chic and colourful. It is not very formal; I like to blend vintage inspirations with contemporary pieces. For me, typical Parisian style can be best described as a mix of casual and elegant. Artwork and photographs are very important to me and I like to hang pictures in frames of different sizes to make a space feel more personal. My main concern is comfort; while my interiors look beautiful in pictures, they must also feel good for the soul. What can visitors expect to find in the store? Everything for every room of the house. The Maison Sarah Lavoine collection includes furniture, tableware, lighting, textiles and clothes, plus the beautiful ceramics of Roger Picault. The store houses all of our collaborations; look out for the Maison Sarah Lavoine x Nobilis wallpapers, Sézane shoes and fantastic photographs by a collective called Lola James Harper. The store is somewhere you can grab a coffee, sit and read, meet and shop all at once. What are some of your favourite pieces? The Yasmine sofa is so comfortable; I like to think of it as an invitation to share a friendly moment with loved ones. The Desk Le Roch is another fantastic piece. It was created for the bedrooms of the Le Roch Hotel & Spa. It’s a simple design in walnut and can be used like a dressing table. Tell us about the layout of the space. It has been designed as an interior. Our objective was to create a welcoming space where people can source new ideas, while finding everything they need to feel comfortable in their own home. The space is ever changing; alongside my own collections, I like to present the work of other designers and to display pieces that I have picked up on my travels. The Maison opens onto two prodigious squares on either side, giving it a certain magic. You can enter the store through the Place des Victoires and leave via Place des Petits-pères. Why did you want to open a store in this part of Paris? I love this area. Just down from the store, I have my office, my home, my first store and my first hotel. It’s a huge honour to be able to open a shop here, and the architecture of the building perfectly suited the Maison I dreamed of creating. What are you working on next? We have just launched the new Printemps de la Maison at Haussmann, the famous Parisian department store. It was quite a challenge for us as it was our first retail project for another brand. Next, I’d like to open stores in Japan or London, perhaps.
