The ART of The garden
What are gardens for? This is the central question posed in a series of talks throughout this September at Hauser & Wirth in Somerset. The Bruton outpost of the international contemporary art gallery is situated on a farm in the rural county, and boasts the stunning Oudolf Field (above), designed by Dutch landscape architect Piet Oudolf. The series, organised by Caroline Donald, gardening editor of The Sunday Times, includes talks by Isabel and Julian Bannerman, Monty Don and Shane Connolly, as well as a photography workshop with Jason Ingram. There will also be an Open Source Salon event with Michael Le Poer Trench, who will discuss his work at the nearby Stavordale Priory garden. On Saturday 16 September, there will be a festival day, with talks and demonstrations by local gardeners such as Georgie Newbery and Charles Dowding.
