Tobias Vernon

Take a trip to either of the 8 Holland Street locations (one in London, one in Bath) and be prepared to want to redecorate. So much more than a shop – though it does sell a wonderful collection of vintage furniture, modern ceramics and works from emerging artists – this gallery space is a reference point for assured good taste. And it all stems from founder Tobias Vernon (left). ‘I love the way he brings in young designers who wouldn’t be able to afford their own retail platform – he’s a true one to watch as I can’t wait to see what he does next,’ said Kit Kemp.

Grain & Knot

Grain & Knot, Sophie Sellu’s (centre left) company selling handcrafted wooden spoons, chopping boards and bud vases, is not brand new – it began in 2014 – but her work is really capturing the imagination right now. Almost her entire collection sold out during lockdown, as its smooth and serene beauty seemed reassuring in troubled times. ‘She’s truly rejuvenating old crafts in a very interesting and engaging way,’ said Sarah Spiteri.

Rachel Chudley

As an interior designer, all of Rachel Chudley’s (centre right) projects have a real flair to them, a sumptuousness in the rich colours and in the use of material. Her background in art shines through – every room she works on feels curated, inspired and often thought-provoking. ‘She’s got a great future ahead of her, as she’s so innovative, fun and different,’ said Kit Kemp.

Bibbings & Hensby

Jack Bibbings and Matthew Hensby make wooden furniture in their London studio, predominantly with hand tools, though occasionally with machines, blending old techniques with new skills. The result is incredibly beautiful pieces (left) that are relatively affordable, often sold direct to their customers online for as little as £150 for a stool. ‘It’s the detailing that I find so incredible,’ said Sebastian Cox. ‘And it’s a terrific thing for young people to have perfected, in terms of a sales technique,’ added Barbara Chandler. →
