Teacher is top of the class

- By ELLIE HUGHES

PRIMARY school teacher Amie Jabczynski finished on a clean sheet with her own Gods Walk VD Cumul (Denbee) to clinch victory in BE90 section J at this wellsupported Welsh fixture.

This was only a second outing this season for the gelding, who suffered a suspensory ligament injury two years ago.

“Although he was never on box rest, he did very little for 18 months,” said Amie. “My vet was confident he would come back to eventing and it gave me the opportunity to take him right back to basics, which did us both good.”

Amie credits her parents for helping her juggle work and riding.

“I’m counting down until the summer holidays,” she added.

Business analyst Harriet George and her six-year-old mare, Challenge Accepted, collected their second red rosette in as many weeks when they followed BE100 victory at Farley Hall with

the same result here.

“I thought the course asked enough questions. The narrow house before the pond caught out a lot of BE100s, but my mare is so bold — anything that backs her off is a good thing,” said Harriet.

Lucy Morgan also enjoyed a foot-perfect spin around the racecourse-based final phase with a catch ride, Isobel Allott’s Tuesdays Child, to win a BE90.

“Isobel has been busy doing AS levels, so she asked me if I would take over for a few events,” said Lucy, who has recently completed a masters in applied sports pyschology at Cardiff University.

The novice classes were brimming with big names.

Harry Meade was crowned

Welsh national champion after winning the intermediate novice

with his own and Nigella Hall’s Catherston Definitive, and he also earned himself a ticket to the British novice championships at Gatcombe with a win in the novice regional final aboard Red Kite.

It was third time lucky for the organisers, Hannah Matthews and Heidi Davis of H& H Events. Of the three events they organise, only this one was able to run a full schedule of classes this year — Howick and Mount Ballan both succumbed to the weather, although the latter was able to run one day of competition.
