A multi-talented son of Totilas made easy work of the mediums at Hunters EC, where Lizzie Murray rode him to a double win.
Timolin, a six-year-old breeding stallion, is by the Dutch dressage legend and out of international small tour dressage mare Samira.
“He was bred by Jane and Aram Gregory, but sadly Jane died before he was born,” said Lizzie, who owns him with her parents Jennie and Anthony Loriston-Clarke, and Hilary Davey. “We bought him as a late three-year-old.”
With offspring already winning young horse classes and a handful of eventing BE90 successes with Aimee Stunt under his belt, Timolin is proving a versatile and trainable character.
“He’s a great horse to work with — very intelligent and bold,” said Lizzie. “Our aim is prix st georges [PSG] next year.”
A partnership new to affiliated dressage this year achieved their highest score yet with a 72.59% novice 37 qualifier win at Burrows Court Farm. Chloe Gunn’s 13-year-old Dutch-bred gelding Ze Devils Dance R had done little more than Pony Club competition when she bought him 18 months ago.
“We’ve been working from scratch,” said Chloe, who is a fulltime insurance claims manager and new to dressage herself. “We train with Roz Frazer-Holland and we’ve been concentrating on keeping his frame up together with his poll as the highest point. Polework sessions have also helped to encourage him to think forwards and engage from his hindquarters.”
The pair also headed the elementary 42 silver section, on their first attempt at the level.
