Trainer and pupil both lifted titles at Crofton Manor Area Festival, riding horses from the same British stud.
Sally Green bought five-yearold Keystone Rhia (Rhondeo x Dimaggio) as a yearling and six-year-old Keystone Quartz (Quaterback x Depardieu) as a foal from Suzanne Lavandera at UK Hanoverians. She sold Quartz to deputy headteacher and close friend Nicola Pearce last year and coached her to win the novice bronze with one of the show’s few plus-71% scores.
Nicola keeps Quartz with Sally, who will ride her at the regionals.
Sally’s own horse, Rhia, was the elementary silver victor. In 2013 Rhia was the top-scoring yearling in the BEF Futurity and recently qualified for the novice freestyle winter regionals.
“She was very focused despite a lot of a distractions, including a loose horse in the lorry park,” commented Sally. “Rhia is definitely one to keep.”
Rebecca Ind juggles running her livery yard near Andover and being a mother to 20-month-old Jack. She bought The Moon, her double winner at elementary and novice bronze, in October.
“We have the best partnership ever,” said Rebecca, who trains with Gina Suddaby. “The novice test was the best I’ve ever ridden and I came out buzzing.”
This was only the pair’s fourth affiliated outing and Rebecca’s first Area Festival, but the eightyear-old by Desert Moon took it all in his stride, posting 73.61 in his novice class.
