BREEDER: M Patrick Sisqueille, Castera VI

OWNER: Ecuries Carlile Complet Eventing & SCEA De Beliard

RIDER: Thomas Carlile UPSILON (right) and Thomas Carlile scored their second Event Rider Masters (ERM) CIC3* win at Barbury International horse trials recently — last year they won the ERM at Blenheim. The pair has been successful since winning the young horse French championship in 2012 and have accrued six wins from 13 international starts.

French-bred Upsilon was bred by Patrick Sisqueille at Elivage De Beliard close to Pau in the south-west of France. The stud also bred Thomas’s World young horse and French champion ride Sirocco De Gers, as well as his former world young horse champion Tenareze, now in the UK and ridden by Harry Meade.

Upsilon is bred to the pattern (Anglo Arabe de Croisement) used by the stud to breed event horses, being by a warmblood sire out of an Anglo-Arab mare.

His Holstein sire, the international jumper Canturo, was the last approved son of Cantus —

also the sire of the Olympic jumper Calido I. Canturo was a winner in Aachen 2005 and the following year competed for Brazil at the 2006 World Equestrian Games. Canturo has several approved sons including Canturano and Canto, and is also the sire of Cian O’Connor’s current Nations Cup ride Good Luck.

Upsilon’s dam O’Vive is by the anglo-Arab Fusain Du Defey, a successful showjumper. He is also the sire of the three-star event horses Ingrato, now in Spain, and Pepsy du Thil, a former ride of Nicolas Touzaint. O’Vive is also the dam of the three-star eventer Trouble Fete (by Lolipap SF), seventh in the CCI3* at Saumur this year.

O’Vive’s dam is by the famous French National Stud anglo-Arab, Quatar De Plape, who can be found in the pedigree of many French sport horses; he is the sire of four-star eventer Cathar De Gamel and the damsire of Tenareze.
