‘WE DIDN’T EXPECT IT’

-

TORQUAY-based Amelia Lockhart, 10, posted a first HOYS win for her family, heading the first riddens with Jacky Newbery’s charming Dartmoor Newoak Designer Edition, who then stood reserve.

The pony — also 10 — is produced at home by Amelia’s sister Kirsty, who works full time for Torbay children’s services.

“Trying to produce a pony for HOYS around my job is a challenge, especially in the darker evenings,” said Kirsty. “Thankfully, all the family chip in to help.

“My sister Shaunna and I used to ride as children, and this is Amelia and “Dezzy’s” sixth time here. We’ve had lots of placings, but we didn’t expect to win this time as it’s Amelia’s first season off the lead.”
