The show’s top scorer, Nathalie, 19, is from Sweden and one of a succession of overseas riders who have joined the Oldencraig staff to train with Vicki Thompson Winfield. Echo is a Zjengis Khan x Jazz eight-year-old owned by Penny Brinley.

Nathalie said: “He’s not too hot, but has lots of energy — I would say perfect. We did our best test so far. Vicki has a good system, so my riding has improved a lot since I arrived six months ago.”

At Hickstead, Kerry Mackin produced a 73.04% elementary

“This is only his second elementary and he gave me such a polite ride,” said 5ft 3in Kerry.

Joanna Henbrey moved her Blue Hors Zack x Romanov five-year-old SJL Zandor up to elementary, winning the silver sections on 67.59% and 68.93%.

Jo said: “Zandor gave me probably one of the easiest rides I’ve had. I’ve just hacked him through the season and he’s gone into every arena and focused on his job.”
