For any dressage riders still confused about the new BD whip rule, you can carry one at a Premier League show, but qualify there for a championship, and you can’t have it at the latter.

But you can in other national classes. And four-year-old championships. Simples.

Poor Gemma Tattersall, missing Boekelo. But why? She was practising the water — on an inflatable unicorn with a rainbow mane in a pool somewhere rather hot. So we think she may have managed to contain her disappointment.

An owner asked others for help. “I’ve heard of people magically getting horses to load,” she said. “Are there any magic people who can cure a horse’s fear of being clipped?!” Er, Harry Potter? Or would it take Dumbledore for a task of such magnitude?
