“It’s a good start,” said Sarah Jorgensen, who moved to Britain in September to study for a master’s degree in veterinary physiotherapy at Hartpury College.

Sarah bought Sandro IIII, her 13-year-old Blue Hors Soprano gelding, a year ago.

“He’s usually a little bit lazy, but once he is in the arena he likes to show off,” she said. “We’re hoping to progress to advanced medium soon. I’ve started working on him with [veterinary physiotherapist] Tim Bradford and he’s feeling so good in his body now.”

Olivia Towers claimed overall victory in both mediums with Mercian Dexter, bringing her tally of wins for the week to six (see box, below).

Kayleigh Jones enjoyed prelim success at Burrows Court Farm with seven-year-old Sweet Pea V, taking the silver section in the 14 qualifier and winning the 15 qualifier overall with 73%. It was the 14.2hh mare’s second double prelim win since returning to competition after a minor injury.

“We have our vet, Emma Travis of Cheltenham Equine Vets, to thank for getting her mended and back on the road,” said Kayleigh, who trains with event rider Alan Nolan.

“I’ve had Sweet Pea since she was two and I’ve produced her with a view to selling her on. Her passport says she’s a cob-cross with unknown breeding, but she’s very light in her build with an outstanding medium trot and lots of elevation and gears. I’d like to keep her, if she were bigger.”
