Beth Bainbridge clocks up four wins at Sparsholt’s Festival of Dressage.

She won an elementary qualifier and freestyle with Horatio VCG, the first horse to be owned by Elite Dressage, newly established by international rider Anna Ross and breeder Lorna Wilson.

“Gravy”, named after his colour, is an inexperienced six-year-old by Don Schufro.

“He was super-balanced in his test and is a lovely boy who will train on,” said Beth.

Laura Arnold’s Quatermagic, also six, then won Saturday’s medium freestyle.

“This was his first ever medium test,” said Beth. “Like all Quaterback’s offspring, he’s sharp, but he’s coming on well.”

Yard favourite Henrico, who is with Anna and Beth for schooling and sale, coped well with the big atmosphere. He won a prelim to complete Beth’s set of four, and also posted more than 75% for second in the novice freestyle.

Olivia Oakeley’s Rock Diva, winner of elementary 43, is the first horse she has bought herself. By Rock Forever, she came from Germany as a two-year-old and this was her first test apart from young horse classes.

“She was petrified in her first class outdoors and we got everything from eights to ones,” said Olivia. “But indoors, she just said, ‘I can do this’.”

Sam McEwan scored just under 70% to win the novice qualifier at Quob on her own Sunnystone The Highwayman. The Hampshire-bred Welsh section D is six and at his first affiliated show.

“He was chilled and listened to me,” said Sam. “He has an amazing uphill canter and we’re just working on getting it balanced.”
