And finally... Shady Duke

- EJ

OH, the grand old Duke of Wellington, he had ten thousand cones…

It may not be quite the words to the nursery rhyme, or indeed accurate in terms of numbers, but the poor old duke has become the subject of unknown pranksters’ attention.

The statue of Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington, in Glasgow’s Royal Exchange Square, has set a new record, as the number of traffic cones it was sporting reached double figures.

It appears members of the public have been trying to outdo previous coneage, balancing nine on the duke’s head and one on that of his trusty steed.

Boozed-up revellers? Or just kind-hearted locals wanting to give the combination some shade in the heatwave?

Whichever, when they were up, they were up and no doubt when they’re down — they’ll be back up again soon.
