WAS IT MY FATHER?
FURTHER to the “Harking back” feature about nostalgic venues
(12 March), does anyone know the identity of the horse and rider in the black and white photograph at Cirencester Park that was included? I think it may be my late father, William (Bill) Trump, on our home-bred mare Kiltie (both pictured above at Wylye Horse Trials from the same era).
Kiltie was a 17hh, Irish Draught/thoroughbred mare, who was incredibly talented. As a child, I rode her in Pony Club handy pony classes, but I also remember her jumping 5ft 3in with my dad to win a high-jumping competition at Newton Abbot Racecourse in the 1970s.
Kiltie marked the beginning of my mother Sue Trump’s lifelong breeding programme – she has recently gained recognition for being the breeder of event horse Mr Chunky and is now breeding from his full sister.
