‘A husky jacket and white string gloves’

I LOVE this photo of Cloudy in 1979, when I was seven, as it shows so many things we would be horrified by now.

I am riding on a dreadful saddle with no knee rolls. I have no back protector and my cardboard hat is held on by a bit of elastic. Obviously no cross-country colours – I am wearing an old husky jacket and white string gloves!

The pony was a complete diamond who taught many local children to ride; he was a brilliant gymkhana pony and very speedy, despite being a Thelwell shape and size!
