NEAT STORAGE

-

When you have a small space, think about marrying form and function. Here she shed owners share their ingenious ways to keep organised.

Built-in storage can be anything from compact cabinetry to open cubbyholes against a wall. Customise the depth so it comes out just far enough to hold the items you want to store. Take advantage of wall height and build upward to stack less-used items overhead.

Think mobile. Tables and trolleys on castors are practical in a small space as they can be moved easily. Wheel them out of the way when guests arrive or if you have a project that needs to be spread out.

Hide drab boxes and bins behind an easy-to-make fabric skirt. Simply attach it to a table or workbench.

Make a basic fold-down table – attach a sturdy plywood square to the wall with hinges, with a hook to hold it up when not in use. Then add one centre leg or two corner legs, also with hinges. The table is there when needed and stores flat without taking up any precious space.

Need a place for longhandled gardening tools? Turn a pallet on one narrow side and secure it to the wall. Then insert your tools in the open slot on top.
