VICKY ANGELL is outdoor living buyer for John Lewis
WHAT’S BEHIND THE TREND?
The folk and tribal looks draw on a number of global influences, which range from Moroccan souks to Turkish bazaars. It really works to combine and match colours, textures and accessories. I love the look of mixed materials on outdoor furniture; wood finishes and neutral colours such as greys and blacks are great starting points. Then layer splashes of colour on cushions and throws. Oversized lanterns and vintage line lights are an inexpensive way to lift your garden and add instant atmosphere.
TOP TIPS
Before you buy furniture for your garden, work out exactly how big it is and whether you want to use the space primarily for lounging or dining.
Recreate the functionality of your kitchen and dining spaces outside by investing in practical pieces, such as occasional tables and a good quality barbecue.
Be bold! There are no rules for dressing your garden, so don’t be afraid to mix and match your outdoor furniture. And take the opportunity to go to town with accessories such as outdoor rugs, cushions and lighting.
