Angular and distinctive, Jessica Thorn’s sculptural ceramics are so precise, you have to look twice to believe they’re made from delicate porcelain. As the process involves rolling out thin sheets of clay and slowly hand-building, it requires lots of skill and patience – luckily, Jessica enjoys the challenge!

Beauty in the process

Located in Bristol, Jessica spends her days in her studio within an artist-run cooperative. Gaining her first glimpse into the world of ceramics during an art foundation course, Jessica was hooked by the mystery and magic of 3D design. Her trademark painted seams and deconstructed shapes celebrate this magic, highlighting the way objects are formed and joined together.

Jessica has recently invested in a potter’s wheel, and is working on new techniques to introduce into her next collection. She’s also embarking on a research project into how objects become part of our daily rituals and offer moments of joy – something we definitely all need a little more of right now! jessicathorn.co.uk
