EXPERT GUIDE FIND THE PERFECT WALL COLOUR

-

‘The kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s often a hive of activity as well as somewhere to relax and entertain,’ says Ruth Mottershead, creative director at Little Greene. ‘This makes it the ideal place to make a statement with adventurous colour choices.’ Ruth advises: 1 Consider the light. If your kitchen gets lots of natural light in the morning, but becomes dark in the evening, try warm colours, which will be beautifully soft first thing and cocooning later in the day. If the room benefits more from evening light, cooler tones will balance out the orange tones of sunset. 2 Take into account colours that already exist within the space. The flooring, furniture, and even everyday appliances all bring additional colour. 3 Consider your choice of wall and cabinet colour in tandem. For example, blue cabinets will pair harmoniously with wall paint that contains a blue undertone. If your cabinets are grey, look for a wall colour that contains a grey pigment. 4 Try not to pick colours of the same strength as they will end up competing with each other once in place. Instead, opt for one colour that’s lighter in tone and one that’s at least a shade darker, to give subtle contrast and balance.
