How It Works

What is WD-40?

- Isa Khoury JS

WD-40 stands for ‘Water Displacement, 40th formula’, as its inventors were trying to create a formula to prevent corrosion on missiles by displacing water and had 39 failed attempts before they found the right one.

Its exact ingredients are a secret, but it uses water-repellent alkanes to displace rust-causing water, and oil to lubricate surfaces.
