I knew the cost of everything, but the value of nowt

-

Joe Preston worked at Broadbents into his 70’s. When I was 14 (long ago), he gave me my first paid job - I cut his grass once a week. Joe would talk about “people that knew the cost of everything, but the value of “nowt”. At the time, I found this puzzling - like many teenager “I had strong opinions on most things”. I knew the cost of something and its value were the same - I now know how wrong I was and just how right Joe had been - the cost of something can be very different to it value, both higher and lower. When I look around, I am surprised at how things have physically changed, but the greatest change has been within me. I now have an inkling of just how little I know and now accept that Joe was right all those year ago and would still be today. When buying something, the cost is simply the amount of money you spend - it is not an absolute measure of the value you receive for your money. A £200 bargain freezer is not a bargain if it only lasts eighteen months. A £300 bargain washing machine is not a bargain if you damage your back trying to get it through the kitchen doorway because the company you bought it from wanted an extra £30 for delivery. While a £10 meal in a café might offer exceptional value via happy memories for years to come. The cost of a new Panasonic washing machine in this advert might be £339 but when you add the value of being confident that the product will be delivered to your home, carefully installed, electrically checked for safety and then all the packaging and old product removed plus the knowledge that you can register the product for a free five year guarantee, you start to appreciate that the actual cost of the washing machine is the same as you may have paid at many shops or via the Internet, but the added value of the service you received from Broadbents would be far higher. We received an email on the 13th November:- We purchased a Bosch Dishwasher from you on Saturday. I just wanted to say how superb the service was. For an additional £60 to deliver and install the same day and fit the door for an integrated unit, adjust the plinth and give a demonstration and remove the old machine is quite superb. Considering other online retailers don’t do a fraction of this and charge infinitely more money is a reflection of how poor they are and how excellent your service is. Thank you so much for a hassle free first class service. We will definitely be returning to purchase more appliances from you if this is the service we can expect. The Optical Sensor scans the water to detect the level of dirt during the washing cycle. The Sensor is able to detect the type of detergent (liquid or powder) and the dirt level of the clothes. Thanks to this sensor, the machine can automatically adapt the washing and rinsing cycle to get the best washing performance while reducing the time and the energy consumption.
