“I am learning all the time, and it’s great to be on board with what is happening at the club,” he said.

“There is a clear strategy right from (chairman) Dean Hoyle down,” he explained.

“Everyone knows their role and responsibi­lities, and you can’t ask for more than that.

“And everyone works really hard, none more so than David and Christoph.

“It has been a big thing for them leaving Germany to start a new job and life over here.

“You can see exactly what it means to them to be successful, and their attitude rubs off on the rest of the club.”

Hughes, who replaced Mike Marsh when he took up a role with the Football Associatio­n, says a big part of his job is getting into the minds of the players.

“I’m a bit of a go-between,” he explained.

“The manager is the manager, and that has to be the case.

“As well as having a good knowledge of the Championsh­ip and below, I’m a recent enough player to know what it is like to be one.

“Hopefully I know them and what makes them tick, whether they might need a bit of help either on or off the pitch.

“I think myself, David and Christoph work well together.

“I might see something they don’t and vice-versa, and we bat
