Walker is robbed by knifeman

When our eyes have dried from weeping. We’ll still have our Fathers love. Rest in peace Dad. A 12-HOUR fundraisin­g marathon brought big rewards for five Huddersfie­ld-based charities.

Vicki Davenport, the director of Oakes-based logistics firm The Pink Link, organised the Pink October Ball, which was held from midday to midnight at the Cedar Court Hotel, Ainley Top, when more than 280 people enjoyed entertainm­ent, raffles and auctions for prizes donated by local firms.

The event raised more than £29,000 for good causes – with the main recipients each receiving a cheque for more than £5,000.

Receiving the cheque were Joyce Graham, of Huddersfie­ld Royal Infirmary Breast Cancer Care Clinic; Julie Sheffield, POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was robbed at knifepoint in Bradley.

The 28-year-old victim was walking at the top of Bradford Road when he saw three youths nearby.

He turned right into Bradley Road at the Bradley Bar roundabout and was approached by the three men.

One of them brandished a knife and threatened him, demanding cash. The robbers took some money and fled down Bradley Road.

The robbery happened on Monday, December 19 at 9.45pm.

The main suspect is described as white, aged between 14-18 years old, 5ft 6in tall and of slim build.

He was wearing a black scarf covering his of the Huddersfie­ld Town Foundation; Kate Leadbeater, of Kirkwood Hospice; Sharon Ennis, of Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice; and Sarah Dransfield, of Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust. A number of other charities will also receive smaller sums from the money raised on the day.

Sarah, who lost most of her right leg to cancer, gave a talk at the ball about how the Laura Crane trust had helped her to cope.

It is the eighth 12-hour ball to be organised by Vicki and her team since 2001.

Said Vicki: “It was a great day and hugely well-supported. The other two suspects were also white and 14-18 years old. One was slim and the other of heavy build. Both were around 5ft 6in tall and wearing black hooded tops.

Det Con Simon Thomas, of Huddersfie­ld CID, said: “This was a frightenin­g incident for the victim, who was thankfully left unharmed but shaken up.

“We are continuing our investigat­ions into this robbery and appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward to assist us.”
