Bikers bring festive joy to the children of food bank users

-

CHILDREN of hard-up parents in Elland did not go without presents at Christmas, thanks to a biker group.

Elland and District Food Bank was handed a large selection of toys for the children of the parents who access its services, from members of the Ride of Honour Bikers’ Group from Sherburn in Elmet.

Chris Eden, leader of the group, said they were eager to promote a positive view of bikers.

Ann Mansfield, Elland food bank secretary, said: “Their members rode around Yorkshire collecting donated toys and then, in turn, delivered them to charitable community groups such as ours.

“We are so grateful to Chris and his fellow riders as their work meant the children of needy families in Elland and district all received a present at Christmas.’’

The food bank is open every Saturday morning at the Southgate Centre, Langdale Street, Elland, from 10.15am until 11.45am.

In addition to a bag of food, customers are also offered a warm welcome, refreshments, and a friendly chat.

Any person wishing to access the food bank needs to come along and register. They will be asked, in confidence, to explain their circumstances.
