So It Goes’ by Bill Joel/ Bob Chilcott.

Exuberance was displayed by Charlotte Horsfield in the ‘Concerto for Trombone’ and the elegant and disciplined String Ensemble gave a plaintive ‘Adagio Con Esspressione’, followed by an uplifting ‘Allegro for String Orchestra’.

The Wind Band opened the second half with the popular allure of ‘The Lion King’, complemented by the beauty of Gershwin’s ‘Porgy and Bess Selection’.

On piano, Lucas Kelly’s jazz piece ‘Little Lucas’ impressed with the constant shifts of tone.

Then came Covert Yr Ears ‘An ode to dogs and other younger generations’, a high voltage electronic piece ending in a beep.

In the year of David Bowie’s death, a warm ‘Life on Mars’ was sung by the choir. They then showed their range with ‘The Seal Lullaby’ and ‘When the Saints Go Marching In’.

Pianist Mason Greenwood was impressively strong throughout the demanding ‘Sonata in E sharp Major’ by Beethoven.

The concert concluded with the Big Band performing ‘Chicago’, ‘Besame Mucho’ and ‘Sing Sing Sing’.

The college’s Paul Wood said: “Congratulations to all for this enjoyable evening of music making.” BRIDAL boutique owner Lynette Blythe’s latest success is tinged with sadness.

Her shop at Westbourne Road, Marsh, has won a national competition for the best festive bridal window display.

The display featured a wedding dress with angel wings and was inspired by Lynette’s daughter, Elenor Rose, who sadly died at just four days old.

Lynette beat hundreds of other entries in the competition run by the publisher of Love Our Wedding magazine.

Lynette said: “I am over the moon to win this competition.

“Christmas is a difficult time of year for us as Elenor Rose was born on New Year’s Eve, but she is always in our hearts.”

Lynette has run the award-winning boutique for four years and has also been nominated in the 2017 Yorkshire Choice Awards in the category for inspirational individual.
