At the Milnsbridg­e Christadel­phians, the Bible class on Wednesday saw the showing of a DVD about the Exodus from Egypt. The Sunday services were taken by Pete Barrett and the talks given by Paul Rose. There was a family tea, followed by the evening Bible talk “Flooding, earthquake­s, the Bible and you.” The meetings and talks planned for the coming week are as follows: on Wednesday evening at 7.30pm, there will be the daily Bible reading and discussion on the readings. On Sunday at 6pm the subject title is “Is God a moral monster?” Visitors are most welcome to come along to our talks and meetings.

Our New Years Day Sunday morning service was an All Age Messy Church service, although no children arrived. We are all children at heart and went ahead as planned. We talked about travel and led onto the three kings travelling to see Jesus. We sang Come and Join the Celebratio­n and Lord the Light of Your Love is Shining. We read the story of the three kings, talked about stars and the gifts of gold, frankincen­se and myrrh. We looked for stars around the room, and wrote prayers on them, had star biscuits, cut out camels, made hand print camels and made crowns. We talked and sang about the 12 days of Christmas. The St James’ Parish Church Carols by Candleligh­t service was led by Rev Robin Townsend, assisted by Jean Clayton and Tim Swift. After the welcome and notices young pianist Patrick Townsend played Chopin’s Fantasie Impromptu, this was followed by seven Lessons and prayers by the children from our three schools, Slaithwait­e Two Gates, Nields and Wilberlee. Then came the placings and blessings of the Crib, this was followed by the Colne Valley Carol and final blessing. The music for the carols was by Slaithwait­e Band, conductor Andrew Booth and the organist was by Alvy Whitehead.

St James’ Parish Church Holy Communion service for the second Sunday of Christmas was led by Rev Robin Townsend, assisted by Dorothy Gledhill. The first reading was from Hebrew ch2 v10-18 and the heading was “The one who will lead us to salvation” and was read by Dorothy. The Gospel reading Matthew ch2 v13-23 and the heading was “The Escape to Egypt”. It was read by Rev Robin and his address was about “Love Stories” and saying that God’s love reached out and as we start 2017 a year of new beginnings, God’s love will go on. The prayers were led by Sarah Brown, followed by the Eucharist and blessings. The pianist was Martin Lowles.
