Flyde prove too strong for Town

-

HUDDERSFIELD Town ladies returned to league action but went down to a 6-1 away defeat against Fylde.

Fylde had the better of the opening minutes and had a goal ruled out for offside, but Town hit back and in the 18th minute Charley Evans crashed a shot off the Fylde bar and Kate Mallin volleyed the rebound wide of the target.

Emily Heckler, who had a brief spell with Fylde earlier in the season, then shot just wide of the goal.

In the 27th minute Fylde took the lead when Katie Anderton from just outside the area, but two minutes later Heckler ran through the Fylde defence only for the Fylde keeper to pull off an excellent save with an outstretched leg.

Those misses proved costly for Town as Fylde’s confidence grew again, and the home scored two more goals before halftime.

Fylde extended their lead to four in the 54th minute following a goalmouth scramble and made it five in the 71st minute.

Mallin grabbed a consolation goal with 12 minutes remaining but Anderton completed her hat trick with another volley in the 82nd minute.
