Trevor was the top of the class as a teacher

-

“Andy and Jamie may only play for another two or three years and when they stop playing that’s too late to start creating a legacy. You have to start to jump on it now because if you wait two or three years, when they’ve gone, tennis could go back to being largely irrelevant in this country again” I WAS so sorry to hear of the death of Mr Trevor Burgin.

He was my teacher at Oakes junior school in 1954, and he was a truly inspirational teacher.

I passed my eleven plus exam, much to the amazement of myself and my family ... but it really was all due to Trevor Burgin.

His method of teaching got the best out of each of his pupils no matter what their ability.

I have never heard anyone say a negative remark about him.

I remember him taking all 4B to Liverpool and New Brighton as a treat, the first school trip that had ever been taken from Oakes school.

I still have the photograph that the coach driver took of all of us, and “Sir” is enjoying his ice cream cornet!

Just like Tony Carter and many others, I was one of his 4B pupils that gathered at the Croppers Arms in Marsh to reminisce about our school days and once again the ‘star’ of the night was Trevor Burgin, when we all shared ‘the best school days.’

Sincere condolences to his family, but please be assured he
