We need action on cameras

-

BUSINESS leaders in Honley are raising cash to extend a CCTV system in the village.

Members of Honley Business Association (HBA) hailed the success of the existing system.

Cameras helped police trace a driver who failed to stop after colliding with an elderly woman on the zebra crossing in the centre of the village, apprehend a burglar and track down the owner of a car that damaged another vehicle in the car park at Westgate.

The Big Lottery Fund provided a £10,000 grant towards the initial installation of cameras throughout the village centre.

And now HBA is calling on the community to help extend coverage beyond the village centre to cover Honley Park, part of Woodhead Road, Brockholes Road to Neily Fields and Station Road to Honley High School and Honley railway station.

HBA has already raised £10,000 towards extending CCTV and is now calling for help to raise the remaining £7,000 needed.

HBA chairman Adele Oxley said: “Every penny counts towards deterring crime, tracing criminals and making Honley a safer place for us all to enjoy. Anyone who lives, works or visits Honley will have greater peace of mind as a result of knowing that our village and surrounding area is not an easy target.”
