They’ve really got your goat

-

CUSTOMERS of the vegan Goat Cafe in Huddersfield have been abused in a series of bizarre messages from its social media accounts.

The Trinity Street business claimed on Facebook that it was ‘ditching the internet’ and would no longer be serving most of its popular coffees.

In a message from the cafe’s official Facebook account, it said: “Being vegan we believe humans are being exploited within the use of modern technology and would like to set a precedent in saying that we are ditching our internet.

“We no longer accept card payments and will no longer post updates or acknowledge digital communication or reviews but will be happy to respond to any written or verbal correspondence.

“If you feel this is not enough then open your mind and drop your ego!”

The message has been deleted, as have several abusive messages from Goat Cafe’s Facebook page.

But when customers questioned the apparent ‘decision,’ some received abusive replies.

One was told: “If you can only use the internet to live then you need to address your life!”

It is not known if the messages are a result of sabotage, hacking, a publicity stunt or something else.

The owners of Goat Cafe (below) have been accused of staging a ‘publicity stunt’ as bizarre posts continued to emanate from the vegan eatery’s Facebook account.

The cafe was due to open yesterday but the Examiner found the premises closed with no signs of activity inside.

During the morning the cafe’s account posted two more peculiar messages on its Facebook page. One said the venue would ‘remain closed for a few days as some essential rewiring works are needed on the mother ship.’

The cafe was opened by Dawn Silver and Matt Ward.

A message was also posted the Facebook account claiming that Dawn and Matt had been responsible for the comments.

It said: “I would also like to point out that, although the original post was a joint effort, the subsequent, sweary comments were down to me (Dawn) and nothing to do with Matt...”

“Posts loaded since then have been a joint effort!”

But other Facebook posters failed to see the funny side.

Vicki Gaunt commented: “Clever that they got all this free media coverage.”

Matthew Levene added: “Looks like a publicity stunt. Either that or the owners have terrible customer service skills.”

The Examiner contacted Ms Silver and Mr Ward. They are yet to respond.
