Messy church was on the theme of “love”, on Sunday 12th February. Children and parents took part in activities, and shared heart chocolates with the congregati­on following the service. Rev Sue Burton led the holy communion service at Providence Methodist Church, Golcar. Church steward Sheila Pearson welcomed all to worship. Brian Craven was the organist. Readings were taken from Matthew 5, 21-26. And 1 Corinthian­s 3, 1-9. Coffee was served following the service. Spring lunch at Providence Methodist Church , Saturday, March 4. 11.30 - 1.30pm. Sung Eucharist for the 3rd Sunday before Lent at St Bartholome­w’s was conducted by the vicar, the Rev Robin Townsend assisted by Geoffrey Holroyd who read the first lesson from 1 Corinthian­s 3 v 1-9. The Gospel reading by the vicar was from Matthew 5 v 21-37 – part of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. The Junior Church took this as their theme an discussed how this still applies to us in this modern day. Prayers were led by David Fisher. Music was provided by Jon Robinson (organ and piano), Paul (piano accordion) and Stan (double bass). Sideswomen were Bunny Lonnen and Jean Pennington. Coffee was served by the men’s team. A few tickets are still available for the Avalanche Dodgers men’s pantomime ‘Skrudge’ this Friday 17 to Saturday 25 February, each evening at 7.30pm in the Parochial Hall, Clough Lea. At the Milnsbridg­e Christadel­phians, the coffee morning Bible reading and discussion group met on Tuesday morning. On Wednesday evening the Bible class was led by Giovanni Marsella and the subject “I will rain down bread from heaven,” was presented by Kevin Waterhouse. The Sunday services were taken by Pete Barrett and the talks given by Steve Stoneley from Heywood. The talk at the evening Bible hour was The Faith Book. The meetings and talks planned for the coming week are as follows: At the Bible class today (Wednesday February 15) at 7.30pm, there will be a talk on “James – trial and temptation.” The talk at the Bible hour on Sunday February 19 at 6pm will be “The world and you need Jesus.” Visitors are very welcome at the talks and meetings.

Sunday morning service was led by Keith Kitson and it was his first visit to us. Keith’s theme was anger, which turned out to be very interestin­g. There was a meaningful sketch by him and Gareth about anger and choices. Readings were by Joe – Deuteronom­y 30:15-20, conditions for restoratio­n and blessing, and Gill – Matthew 5:21-26, teaching about anger. It was about how anger can weigh us down and that we need God’s help to forgive and to be forgiven. A hymn from Singing the Faith speaks of ’Take our selfish thoughts and actions, petty feuds, divisive factions, hear us now to you appealing, teach us to love.’

At Slaithwait­e Good Companions Patricia Parkinson welcomed everybody and Maureen Weaving had organised a series of quizzes about yesteryear and Do You Remember? She was thanked by Pat for a fun afternoon. St James’ Parish Church holy communion service for the 3rd Sunday before Lent was led by Rev Robin Townsend, assisted by Robert Swift. The first reading was from 1 Corinthian­s, ch3 v1-9 and the heading was Servants of God and was read by Margaret Warren. The Gospel reading was Matthew ch5 v21-27 and the heading was Teaching About Anger and was read by Rev Robin and his address on this theme. Our Lord knew the importance of sorting out your difference­s and putting things right before you can be right with God. The word Sorry is a word of power. Prayers were led by Barbara Swift followed by the Eucharist and blessings. Children of the Sunday Club had been talking about Love, which is like a snowflake, every one different. They had made snowflakes and valentine cards and the organist was Alvy Whitehead. St James’ Parish Church special concert is on Saturday (February 18), 7pm, with Slaithwait­e Band and Bradford City Band. Entry £5 at the door and refreshmen­ts at the interval.
