The Shelley Over 60s Club held their weekly games and gossip meeting on Thursday the 9th February 2017 at Shelley Village Hall. From 7 tables the whist high of 85 was shared by Margret Lee, Bryan McGuffog, and Brian Wilson and the low of 66 went to Joan Horne. Another bumper 9 birthdays were celebrated and congratulations went to Clare Long, Richard Scofield, Jean Peck, Shirley Wilson, Keith Field, Barry Jessop, Janet Mathews, John Earnshaw and John Ainley..The bingo line was won by Janet Metcalfe, and the full house shared by Jo Morrison and Janet Metcalfe.. Raffle prizes were won by Molly James, Margret Schofield, Joan Wray, Iris Starling, and Kath Code. A minutes silence was held in respect for John Walker, who despite a brave fight sadly passed away during the past week.

Skelmanthorpe Methodist Church all age worship was led by Rev Ann Sherratt. ‘Help us oh Lord to learn’ was the opening hymn with organ accompaniment by Christine Senior. The theme of the service came under the heading of ‘rules and law’. Together with the children the rules and laws of everyday living were explored. The Ten Commandments were read from Exodus Chapt 20 with thoughts about how to keep them today. Figures of Moses, holding a list of the Commandments were produced by the children during the service following which an action song, ‘God loves you and I love you’ was sung. Matthew chapt 22 vs 34-40 titled ‘The Greatest Commandment’ in which Jesus says “love the Lord your God with all your heart” and “love your neighbour as yourself” was read. At the end of the service refreshments were served
