Premier start year with big medal haul

The Kick Of The Day award went to Camran Hassan for a stunning double head shot, which catapulted him to victory against a current British champion.
There were also great performances in other categories, with wins for Amy Calpin, Chloe Cunliffe, Ella Eastwood, Hanna Siddiqui, James Maxted, Eric Kacica, Jamie McIntosh, Kairan Connolly-Bradshaw, Michael Laki and Tyler Doherty.
Silver medals were won by Balpreet Aujla, Oscar Whitcut, Jamila Siddiqui, Lucas Sharma, Luis Matheson, Nicholas Kacica and Xavier Kacica, who all put in top performances.
The coaches’ player of the tournament award went to Nicholas Kacica for an outstanding performance against a bigger and stronger opponent.
Master Mosy, the club’s head coach and founder of Premier Taekwondo, said: “Nicholas’s performance was outstanding, we had a game plan and he followed it to the letter.”
On the overall team performance, Mosy added: “It has been three months since our last competition, and this was a great start to the year.
“We had some great performances from our entire team and I am really looking forward to the year of competition ahead.
“This was the first competition under the new rules brought out in January, and all our competitors coped really well with the changes that have been made.”
Sweden and Manchester United footballer Zlatan Imbrahimovic was also in attendance, looking on in support, and he is himself a second dan black belt in taekwondo.
Premier Taekwondo, who recently were awarded “Talent Club” status from Great Britain Taekwondo, is based in Birkby, and has over 600 members.
The club have members of all ages from Lil Dragons through to veterans, and they offer ladies-only classes for self defence.
