H, the bathroom. It’s the one room in the house that we all have to use. Even the Queen uses the bathroom – although in Her Majesty’s case, is it referred to as the throne room?

Whatever you call it, this is the most personal of spaces where we retreat to have a little private time.

For some it is a practical place, where morning ablutions are performed in double quick time in a rush to get out the door.

For others, and I count myself in this, it is a place of sanctuary. It is a room with a lock on the door, which I can use to keep myself hidden away and the rest of the family firmly out.

It is somewhere I can head to at the end of a long working week, pour myself a long hot bath and a long cool glass of wine, and enjoy them both in some degree of privacy. It’s my place to recoup and regroup, and as only family I do think that the idea of bathing al fresco is more romantic in theory than it is in practice – lack of hot water is the main turn-off for me, never mind fretting about losing the soap! Keep your reeds safely stuck to your bathroom wall while you enjoy all the comforts that indoor plumbing has to offer – bathroom bliss… I can’t think of another room in the home where these wooden blocks would fit in quite so well – somewhere you can lie back and put those words into sweet action. members are going to see this room, I can decorate it as I see fit – and so can you. If you want to lie in African-themed splendour, you can. If seaside blues are your thing then this is the room you’ll find them in. The rest of the house may have to fit in with everyone else’s needs and tastes, but when it comes to the salle de bain, it really is all about you.
