A service of holy communion opened at St George’s Church, Brockholes, with the rousing hymn Praise my Soul the King of Heaven. The reader was Kate Drake, the organist Peter Biedukiewicz and the server Roger Kenworthy. The Rev Liam Beadle led the service and preached from Ephesians chapter 3 verses 1 to 13.
The Rev Helen Roberts led the morning service with holy communion in Brockholes Methodist Church. Mrs Eileen Littlewood played the piano and Mrs Barbara Oldfield welcomed the congregation. Bible readings were Leviticus chapter 19-v 1-2 and 9-18. Matthew 5-v 38-48. The sermon and talk to the children was from the bible readings with the themes to be fair and caring to everyone, don’t make life more difficult for others and love one another. Mrs Janet Grant provided coffee, tea and biscuits. Next Sunday the preacher will be Mr Neil Ward from Holmfirth. The next Soup ‘n Roll will be on March 1 from 11-45am-1pm.
The house group from St David’s in Holmbridge met on Tuesday, hosted by Ian Gold and led by Andrew Mauchen. Wednesday morning Holy Communion at St David’s was led by the Rev Nick Heaton with lessons read by Ian Gold. Parish communion with crèche and young people’s groups on Sunday morning was led by the Rev Nick Heaton. Lessons were read by Judith Roberts and Sandy Wise. Cherry Mauchen led the intercessions. The chalice was administered by Ian Macdonald and organist and choirmaster was Jean Chadwick. Eucharist, assisted by Laurence Jones and Richard Ashley. The lesson was read by Richard Ashley and Cate Ashley led the intercessions. The organist was Peter Biedukiewicz.
Twenty-three members of Huddersfield Healthy Life Ramblers walked in the Holmfirth area. They went from Sands taking in Netherthong, Wolfstone Heights, Upperthong Newlands and Hogley where a lunch stop was made.Then the route went down to Hinchliffe Mill to follow the river back to Holmfirth. The leaders were David Pinder and Syd Howarth.
The service at Wooldale Methodist Free Church on Sunday was led by Mr Ken Speake, who read from Luke’s Gospel. The pianist was Mrs Sylvia Jordan.
