Schoey lit the fuse and I was delighted how Lee played

-

GIANTS coach Rick Stone has expressed his concern over Lee Gaskell’s heart scare.

The Huddersfield utility back was forced to withdraw from the warm-up ahead of last night’s heavy 48-8 home defeat to Hull FC.

Gaskell was one of nine first-choice players absent from the starting line-up – with seven of his teammates injured and Ukuma Ta’ai serving a one-match suspension.

All the injuries are an obvious concern to Stone.

But it’s the nature of Gaskell’s that’s the major worry.

“He’s had some irregularity with his heartbeat, and that returned in the warmup,” revealed Stone.

“So we’ll send him away for some tests HULL coach Lee Radford was delighted to see Marc Sneyd do his talking on the pitch after the scrum-half inspired his side to a crushing 48-8 victory over the Giants.

Heavily criticised by former Black and White Garry Schofield in the week, Sneyd responded with a stunning display in which he scored a hat trick of tries and kick eight goals.

Radford said: “Schoey lit a bit of a fuse with his comments so, if that’s the response, he can keep doing that as often as he likes. Marc did not bat an eyelid about it but he is made of the stuff that does not react to criticism.

“His temperament is perfectly suited to being a number seven at the Black and Whites and does not fold under that sort of pressure.”

Radford was also keen to hail Hull’s professionalism after they dispatched a below-strength Huddersfield by a record score between the two teams during the Super League era.

He said: “When we saw their team and the number of players they had out it’s always worrying that we might drop our guard.

“It’s uncanny for a team to have so many players out after just three or four rounds but we were not complaining when we saw their team.

“You hope that your players don’t take anything for granted and their young blokes had a go so I am pleased.

“I thought our defence was really good – we conceded a couple of tries on our left edge, so we’ll have to fix that up but we put a lot of ball down in back field so had to defend well.

“We still have to get a little bit more fluid with the football but I’m pleased to get a win.”
