Meltham through to last four

A HUDDERSFIE­LD area team is through to the last four of the West Riding County FA’s Challenge Trophy.

Meltham Athletic earned their place in the semi-final draw with a 3-2 home win over Leeds-based Mount St Mary’s from the Yorkshire Amateur League.

However, another Yorkshire Amateur League outfit Huddersfie­ld YMCA reserves were beaten in the quarter-finals as they went down 3-0 at home by Bradford outfit Field FC.

The BBC will broadcast every game from the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France as part of new deal which will see extensive coverage across TV, radio and online.

England’s Lionesses reached the semi-finals of the 2015 World Cup in Canada, with a peak TV audience of 2.4million watching into the early hours as an own goal from Laura Bassett in injury time saw Mark Sampson’s side suffer a dramatic defeat against Japan.

The BBC will continue to cover the FA Women’s Super League as it heads into the Spring Series from April ahead of a new season in September, with live commentary on Radio 5 Live and 5 Live sports extra as well as televised highlights on the Women’s Football Show and broadcasti­ng the Women’s FA Cup final shown in May.

FIFA’s Secretary General Fatma Samoura said: “The seventh edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2015 reached record-breaking numbers of TV viewers and social media clicks, underlinin­g global interest in the world’s biggest single-sport event for women.

“As excitement grows around the eighth edition of the competitio­n, we are delighted to work with the BBC to broadcast the ultimate event in women’s football to even greater audiences in the UK via the BBC’s TV, radio and digital platforms.”

Director of BBC Sport Barbara Slater added: “Women’s football has grown over the last few years and we are proud of the contributi­on we have made. France 2019 promises to be another fantastic showcase.”
