Taxman fails to catch the dishonest and powerful

-

“It was more stand-up than it was serious economics. I want a Chancellor in charge of the economy not a stand-up comedian” SO the self-employed will have to pay more national insurance.

Anybody with an ounce of intelligence knows that they will make sure they are no worse off.

What will happen is that they will declare even less of their earnings than they declare now.

My husband was selfemployed for a very short time and you would be amazed at what expenses they can offset against their tax and what their accountants can (legally, of course) wangle for them.

A friend of mine told me that in spite of working full-time as an electrician he only paid £36 in tax for one whole year. I’ve no reason to disbelieve him.

Why doesn’t the taxman hound these people, some of whom are dishonest, as well as the big companies, instead of hounding people on PAYE who through no fault of their own have underpaid due to the incompetency of their own staff.

I’ll tell you why, not that you don’t already know, it’s because they’re easy targets.

Shortly after I retired I was hounded for £360 which they said I had underpaid. I disputed it but of course they blinded me with science and as I had no accountant to ‘help’ me they deducted it from my pension. WHY on earth are cars being allowed to park again on Lockwood Road opposite the Victoria pub approaching Chapel Hill?

This caused problems a few months ago but was temporarily resolved with traffic cones that have since vanished.

Why don’t the council just put double yellow lines there?

It’s a no-brainer and would help stop the usual congestion at Folly Hall lights.
