SUDDENLY, OLD people!

Blimey, where did they all come from? They must have crawled out of the woodwork, and crept up on us, and some of them needing care and deliberately bunging up hospital wards too. How were we expected to know – and prepare for them?

Well, this may come as startling news to all the people who’ve been in power for the last 30 or 40 years, but we’ve always been here. We were just younger at the time. And we didn’t all conveniently drop dead once we ceased to be useful.

We are the people who were running the hospitals, the care homes, the schools, social services, the armed services and police forces, the newspapers, radio and television – in fact, everything.

Oh, and a lot of us bringing up families and running the Girl Guides and after-school clubs and raising money for charities in our spare time too.

We weren’t just maundering about, waiting our chance to bung up the hospitals with malice aforethought.

So how come we’ve come as such a shock? And are now the villains of the piece, and to blame for everything. HAVING read the article from Dave Calverley, chairman of Huddersfield Giants Supporters Association, it seems as though he won’t have anything wrong said about the team.

Yes, it is a good idea to meet for a drink in the stadium bar even if there is a membership of £5. You overheard a comment but isn’t that a positive step to overhear only one comment? You would have got more than one comment if it was a free bar!

I was at the game last Friday at Leigh and if they had got the correct calls from the referee (second try was unbelievable) who knows? You must have been sat in the exclusive area because behind the goals with flat-cap supporters I just heard chanting. They were just short of ideas, something which obviously can be sorted out in training.

I did not know that Scott Grix was a confidence player. If he has to be told he is magic before every game someone should have informed Anderson or Paul Daniels.
