Field’s stroll to title rolls on at Morley

motivated, despite virtually winning the league title already.

“I was really pleased with the boys today, it’s been tough mentally over the past couple of weeks to keep the motivation high,” he added.

Scrum-half Hinchliffe opened the scoring with a clever feint pass to break the line.

A minute later Conway went over after a quick switch in play allowed him some freedom on the left-hand side to get over. Bell converted.

Grainger, Workman and Bell got the other tries in the first half to make the score 33-0 at the break.

On the stroke of half-time, South African Dante Van der Merwe broke the line with blistering pace, and Conway stopped an almost certain try with an illegal tackle which resulted in a yellow card.

Sharpe opened the scoring in the second half after Bradley and Owen broke the line, allowing Sharpe to score.

The other four tries, all came in similar fashion, scoring on the lefthand side. The Morley team was very different from when they last played Huddersfield - and Lewis didn’t know what they would be up against.

“Their team was changed a lot from when we played them last, so they were an unknown quantity I guess,” he said.

Lewis was pleased with the performances from second row Austen Thompson and Workman.

“We made good inroads with intelligent running lines,” he added. “I thought Lewis Workman hit some great lines, as did Austen Thompson, but we were very physical and we took our chances today.”

Lewis was happy with how Field performed in the set-pieces and when his side were dominant in those, it allowed them to control the game.

“I thought our scrummage was very strong, our line-out was consistent and accurate throughout the game,” he said. “Once you’ve got the set-piece nailed you’re always going to be on the front foot.”

Huddersfield hadn’t conceded a point up to the 65-minute mark, and Lewis was hoping his side could keep their opponents scoreless for the second game in a row.

He concluded: “I was hoping we could kept under that 200-against mark, but we gave away a couple of sloppy tries at the end because of lapses in concentration, so that was disappointing, but you can’t criticise the boys too much.”

Huddersfield YMCA lost 46-0 away at Alnwick in North One East.
