and intermediates, who are aged 11-14, will be awarded marks for presentation, innovation, style, costume and musicality.

They will be judged by adjudicator Kathleen West, a retired dancer and teacher, who taught countless young dancers at schools around West Yorkshire.

“I thought it would be difficult to top last year when we celebrated our 15th anniversary with a special show and won a My Mirfield award,’’ said Katie Philpott, who established the school in 2000.

“However, 2017 is proving to be just as busy. We’re honoured to be finalists again and, inspired by our student Niamh Biltcliffe, we’re fundraising for Rays of Sunshine which makes dreams come true for poorly children.”

The show will also feature seniors performing work choreographed by the school’s creative director, Rachel Bowers.

The Choreographic Cup and Freestyle Presentation will take place tomorrow at 4pm at the Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield.

Tickets are available for £10 each from: www.thelbt.org. A FUN day will take place to celebrate the re-opening on Elland Bridge.

A day of entertainment and activities is planned for tomorrow from 10am to 4pm, on and around Elland Bridge and the Calder and Hebble Navigation.

Calderdale Council and the Canal and River Trust, who have been working together to rebuild Elland Bridge since the 2015 floods, are organising the event for the whole community to celebrate the completion of the bridge and the reopening of the canal and towpath.

They’re promising entertainment and activities for all ages; stalls showcasing local businesses; local food and drink and a few surprises.

Clr Tim Swift, leader of Calderdale Council said: “It’s also our way of saying a big thank you to all of the local businesses, residents and commuters for their patience during the difficult closure period, and to everyone that has worked so hard to build a better bridge.’’
