Town slip up against champions Albion

-

HUDDERSFIELD Town ladies slipped to their second successive league defeat away to last seasons champions West Bromwich Albion 3-1 away from home.

Albion started the better on a difficult pitch and they took the lead in the 10th minute when their No10 fired home from the edge of the box.

Town keeper Charlie Kenyon was called into action a few minutes later and pulled off a good save to deny Albion a second.

With almost half an hour gone Sarah Dobby struck a shot but wide of the Albion goal.

Town were now getting into the game and equalised in the 32nd minute when Mille Turner played in Emily Heckler, who struck a shot into the top corner of the net.

Kate Mallin then had a shot at goal but straight into the arms of the keeper.

With seven minutes of the first half remaining, Albion played a ball through the middle and there appeared to be little danger as Kenyon ran out to clear but, probably due to the playing surface, she could only slice her clearance into the path of the Albion striker who had an easy opportunity to put Albion ahead once again.

Just two minutes later and Kenyon redeemed herself with an excellent stop, one on one with the attacker.

Chances in the second half were few and far between but on the hour mark, Heckler probably should have levelled things up when she latched onto a poor back pass, but she couldn’t beat the West Brom keeper.

In the 67th minute Albion put the game to bed with a lob shot which gave Kenyon no chance.

In the dying minutes Heckler had a couple of half chances but she was unable to find the target.

On Sunday the first team travel to second placed Middlesbrough Ladies (2pm).
