In the final, Lindley started confidently taking the first two games 11-8 and 11-4.

Heslop recovered in the third game to lead 8-4 then pegged back to 8-7 before comfortably claiming the game 11-7.

Heslop continued to defy Lindley by repeatedly blocking his loop shots but with Lindley holding the advantage at 9-8 he got an edge which gave him match point at 10-8.

Heslop would not accept defeat easily and some excellent play was rewarded with the next four points to win the game 12-10 and level the match.

The fifth and deciding game saw great attacking play from both players as the scoring went 3-3, 4-4, 5-5, 6-6 and 7-7.

Lindley’s experience then got the better of his younger opponent and he won the deciding game 11-7 to claim his 13th singles title.

Both Heslop and Dyson gained some consolation on the day. Heslop teamed up with his Deighton playing partner Fraser Riley to win the doubles.

This was an excellent performance as the losers, Dyson and Russell Senior, had held this title for the previous six years.

Dyson was involved in another final, the Over 40s against Lindley.

The match was an excellent advert for table tennis and a brilliant match for the spectators to witness.

Neither player gave an inch as they utilised their best serves before throwing backhand and forehand top spins at each other in a five game thriller.

Dyson won the match with a 17-15 fifth game win, extending his winning run in this event to nine consecutive titles.

Two Deighton players were successful in the Handicap competition and Band One singles.
