Mills enjoys win in final outing of campaign

-

HUDDERSFIELD rising cycling star Jody Mills has enjoyed success at in British Schools cycling competitions.

The year three pupil at the Mount School in Edgerton is looking to build on his successes last year in the first three British Schools Cycling Association (BSCA) races of the 2016/17 School year.

Having stepped up an age category to become a first year Under 9 has not held Mills back.

In the Yorkshire Cyclocross Championships, two falls in the muddy conditions left Mills towards the back of the field.

However, he fought back to move alongside the leader coming into the final corner, but unfortunately a lapped rider slowed his attack, and he wasn’t able to take the victory – but second place in his year in the category was a great achievement.

Next up were the National Cyclocross in Redditch with a strong field of riders from all over the country.

Mills had a strong race and was towards the front of the field throughout.

He chased down potential podium place to the end, but finished in fourth behind three older riders.

These races completed a very successful Cyclocross season for Miils, where he also got a number of podium places riding for his club Huddersfield Star Wheelers in the Yorkshire Cyclocross Under 10 Series.

At the BSCA Yorkshire Roller Championships Mills hit the top step for the first time this year to take the title in convincing style.

Across his three races he set the three fastest times in his age category, with a clear victory by over seconds on his final 1000m race.

Mills is now looking ahead to the summer months in the circuit and grass track competitions.
