Close shave in memory of brother

A TEENAGER who lost her brother to cancer is to have her long hair cut off on the day he died eight years ago.

Neill Weavill, who was married with two children, died on April 27, 2009, and his 18-year-old sister Sammie from Dalton will have her head shaved that day at the Vinery Hair Salon, Huddersfie­ld.

Sammie, a student at Kirklees College, said: “Neill was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma and fought his battle with cancer for as long as he could, I have never met anyone so strong and witnessed how cancer doesn’t only hurt its sufferers but their families too.

“So I am not just doing this for everyone who has had cancer, or has cancer, but for their families and friends who go through it with them.

“I have really long hair now and I have been growing it out for around seven years, ready for its Number 1 all over. I want to do all I can to help find a cure and I don’t believe you have to have cancer to fight and help beat it.

“My hair will be sectioned into six plaits and each one donated to the Little Princess Trust, to help and make a wig for a little girl battling cancer.

“My first plait will be cut off by the mayor of Kirklees, Clr Jim Dodds, and the rest by my close family/friends who have supported me no matter what over the years through thick and thin and I will be forever grateful to them.”
